This intensely-colored hedge of bougainvillea doesn’t wait for spring to start blooming. In Key West, it is a year-round phenomenon.
Spring is tomorrow, but Key West is blooming a rainbow of colors throughout its colorful streets. Pictured here is an impressive hedge of bougainvillea, a thorny ornamental shrub that can grow to over twenty feet tall. This one is actually three different varieties planted side-by-side, yielding a spectacular street-side presentation.
Interesting fact: the bright colors you see are not the actual blooms, but a set of bracts that surround the plants tiny white flowers.
